Get ready for work

SCHOOL leavers are encouraged to apply for a paid place on a construction skills course run by East Renfrewshire council and Reid Kerr college.

Training includes a national progression award at intermediate level two, in construction, as well as a series of units involving brickwork, carpentry and joinery, roofing and plumbing skills.

Programme manager Elaine Cheatley described the course as "a great opportunity for young people

In East Renfrewshire who are interested in pursuing a career in a construction trade".

Health and safety training is also included, leading to a pass in the construction skills CSCS test, sd erll as work placements to provide real experience for job seekers.

Trainees will receive £55 per week, and anyone interested can contact Skills Development Scotland on 881 2886 - closing date for applications is June 8.
